Braidy's Final Project/Grade defense - 'Proximity Robot'.
My free form project was inspired by an artist that I found on Tumblr. You can view her art by going to the link vaydra.tumblr.com/tagged/stuff+i+drew. She uses a lot of proximity in her artwork and inspired me to do my own proximity piece by using one of her recent pictures as a guide on how to do the body and shading. Afterward, I added in my own details (such as the hair, the background, the highlights, etc.) to make it my own. I attempted to challenge myself with this project by limiting my pallete. The color scheme that I used consisted of only neutrals mixed with red to make it pop. There is dominance in the photo with the viewer's eye going straight towards the figure in the middle of each background. For the backgrounds, I created a random pattern and then switched around the colors for each. Therefore, there is repetition of the main figure throughout the picture, but with different backgrounds. This also shows symmetry between each of the figures and the backgrounds while still showing just a tad of variety with the color scheme for each. This is the first piece of artwork that I feel is good enough to be put into my professional portfolio. It is my favorite piece of artwork that I have completed so far and I learned a ton about creative ways to shade through doing this project.
1) I was resourceful when completing this piece by relying on another artist for inspiration. I also used her as a guide on how to pose the body and how to do the shading. I also pulled up a tutorial and used a different reference for how to highlight the hair. Finally, I utilized Christie, Zeecy, and Jada as a resource by asking them for their opinions and for their critique on anything that I needed to fix.
2) I used intellectual curiosity while completing this project through using an artistic technique that I have not yet done.
3) I believe that this piece represents the quality of work that I have completed this year because this is what all of the previous work I have completed has allowed me to accomplish. The previous projects helped me understand proximity and gave me the confidence to attempt something more difficult. If it were not for this class and the projects that I have completed during the course, I would either not have the confidence to attempt a project like this or would have ended up completely copying the picture I had referenced instead of using it as a loose guide.
