Allie's Typography Project "Night's Fools"

"But night makes a fool of us in the daylight"

  1. Typography can be expressive when desired, but there are also times when typography should blend into the background so it does not detract from the actual words being said. An instance when typography should be expressive is when someone is attempting to convey a specific message, such as a horror movie having their title be in a horror-esc font. Another valid example would be my art project (see above). I was aiming for a creepy feel so I thought it would be effective to have the words seem to flow from the sewn lips of the moon. However, it would be unpractical and distracting if the very text I am writing in now was overly expressive. The reader would not be able to focus on what I was saying, but would be engulfed by the visual aspect of the font. It would change the reader's perception. Therefore, a boring text is perfectly adequate and conveys the emotion I am going for, which is no emotion at all.
